Frequently Asked Questions

Common gameplay questions, survival tips, and troubleshooting guides for Darkest Hours.

How many trials are in a Darkest Hours match?

Every match consists of exactly 4 trials. Trials 1 and 2 have standard objectives (Collect or Capture). Trial 3 is always a Special Trial with modifiers (Dolly, Double Trouble, Fog, etc.). Trial 4 is always the Escape Trial where you must reach the exit eye.

What is the best way to reduce the round timer?

Capturing points yields -30 seconds per point (maximum -90 seconds for all 3 points), while completing scrap quotas yields only -10 seconds per quota. Capture objectives are always more time-efficient when survivable.

How do I escape the Angry Munci entity?

NEVER look directly at Angry Munci — its speed scales proportionally with observation. Use the Riot Coil to safely stun it without halting your movement. Listen for its loud humming audio cue to track proximity without visual confirmation.

What is the correct order for using Soda and Speed Coil?

CRITICAL: You MUST consume the Soda FIRST to restore stamina, then immediately activate Speed Coil. If you activate Speed Coil first and then switch to Soda, the Speed Coil effect will CANCEL, wasting your charge. The correct sequence is: Soda → Speed Coil.

Are there any active promo codes for Darkest Hours?

No. Darkest Hours does not have a promo code system. The game does not operate on a traditional currency or credit-based economy. All progression, items, and survival benefits come strictly from gameplay mastery.

What is the Last Prisoner Standing event?

When only 1 player remains during any trial except the final Escape Trial, the LPS event triggers. Every entity gains omniscient awareness of the lone survivor's exact location, but the player receives infinite stamina as compensation. Survive approximately 2 minutes to spawn an extraction machine.

How do I counter Alex during the Escape Trial?

The Heliotrope Coil is the ONLY speed item fast enough to outrun Alex. Alex's pursuit speed is calibrated slightly below the Heliotrope's maximum velocity. If you don't have one during an Alex encounter, survival is extremely unlikely. Note that Alex bypasses Blue Relic entirely.

Why did my team fail the Escape Trial despite reaching the exit?

The guarding entity uses "exit camping" tactics. You cannot simply rush the extraction point. You must designate one player as a "kiter" — they activate Speed Coil, draw the entity's aggro, and drag it to the opposite side of the map while the team extracts through the now-unguarded exit.

What happens during Special Trial Dolly?

A massive eye appears below your screen with distorted audio. When Dolly opens her eyes, you MUST stop ALL movement immediately or take rapid damage. Interestingly, all other entities and killers pause during Dolly's eye-open phase, creating a window for repositioning. The stop-and-go rhythm completely disrupts chase evasion flow.

Is the Revolver a reliable defensive weapon?

No. The Revolver has a 50% misfire rate (3 live rounds, 3 blank rounds out of 6 total shots). NEVER fire at close range — if you misfire near an entity, you'll be killed during the 15-second cooldown. Fire only at maximum range to allow retreat time if you get a blank. The Revolver is a situational tool, not primary defense.

How do I deal with Brute Twins?

Brute Twins apply a continuous bleed effect on contact that drains health until healed. You cannot "tank through" the damage. Immediately use healing items like Teddy Bear or Burger after any contact. Monitor your health bar carefully post-encounter.

What should I do during a Blackout trial?

Flashlight (F key) is mandatory during Blackout trials. Visibility is severely restricted. Agony becomes useful for navigation since it emits a light source. Prioritize the Radar over visual scanning, and move carefully to avoid colliding with map geometry at full speed.
